MAGIC CUP GOLD DIVISION CHAMPIONS 2011
8/29/2011

The "Fury" were crowned Champions of the Magic Cup by beating a very talented and strong Sacramento United team in the final. The championship game ended in a 1-1 tie after regulation time. Penalty kicks ensued and the "Fury" were successful in converting 4 straight penalty kicks while the GK Savannah Winters saved a penalty. Great showing for a team that played in the Gold Division and and competed with opponents with higher rankings. With this win and the successful run at the Presidents Cup, the team moved up 38 positions in the National Rankings and 4 spots the California North Rank. Job well done.

FURY HEADS TO WESTERN REGIONALS

5/26/2011

The start of summer vacation for the typical 15 year old girl usually consists of sleeping in, hanging out with friends and lying in the sun. However, for sixteen players on one of Livermore Fusion SC soccer teams, the first week after school ends will be spent in West Jordan, Utah. The U15G "Fury" team advanced to the Western Regionals of Presidents Cup by winning its final six games, including a 6-2 vistory in the Northern California final in Elk Grove in mid-April. Now, the team is not only preparing to playing soccer in Utah, but Fury parents are trying to figure out the most economical way to spend their first week of summer.

What is unique about this group is not that the team peaked at the right time and played its best soccer of the year, but that a Primier Team within the Fusion Soccer Club is comprised of all Livermore residents. Most played High School soccer this past winter at Granada or Livermore High schools, resulting in competitive, yet familiar play against their own Fury teammates. Coach Robert Fairclough believes that this is the first time in at least ten years that a Livermore soccer team reached a US Youth Soccr Cup Regional level. This is a special opportunity for a team that finished in the middle of the pack in its fall league but worked hard after the High School season concluded in February. The team's most difficult game was against another local club team, the Pleasanton Rage, who was strong enough to represent Northern California, if the Fury had not scored the game-winning goal with two minutes remaining in their quarterfinal match.

The team's surprising finish presents a larger challenge for Fury parents, who did not expect a week's trip to Utah and all the expenses associated with travel and lodging, especially with high fuel prices. The girls and their parents have begun fundraising efforts to defray the cost of the trip, especially on the heels of weekend trips spent in Redding and Sacramento where the team began its march to the regionals. The team is already selling cookie dough and planning future fundraisers. The team would like to ask that for any of those that are interested in making donations or inquiring about fundraisers to contact at team at grassterri@comcast.net

What happens if the Fusion SC "Fury" team wins regional play? The team would then advance to the National Championship three weeks later in Des Moines, Iowa, a distant dream a few months ago but now a possibility of the team excels in Utah. More fundraising would be needed. They will represent the Fusion Soccer Club and the City of Livermore well wherever they go!

The team will be fundraising throughout the coming year. Please contact grassterri@comcast.net for more information on how to support the team. Thank you.
